Governors - What We Do

We are very fortunate in having an excellent Governing body. Governors are very actively involved in the school on a regular basis through their monitoring and evaluating visits, attendance at school events, governors meetings and help in the classroom. They are not involved in the day to day running of the school but have an important role in providing a strategic direction for the school. What we call " Focussing on the big picture" . It is their responsibility to promote high standards and quality teaching and learning experiences for the children.

Our Governors come from all walks of life. They include school staff, parents and volunteers from the community.

Chair of Governors, Mrs Leigh Timbrell

‘Lainesmead has been an important part of my life for a very long time. I started at the Infants School as a pupil in 1965 and this continued with my own children's attendance. Indeed, it was the school's values and ethos that inspired me to change career and train to be a teacher. This is what drives me to ensure Lainesmead is the best school it can be, working hand in hand with staff, parents and the community.’

Rev Norma McKemeyn - Vice-Chair of Governors

‘Having been a teacher for most of my working life, I have a keen interest in education. When I became an associate minister at Christ Church with St. Mary’s, Old Town it seemed quite a natural step to become a governor for one of the schools in our parish and Lainesmead was the one who took up my offer. I have been a governor for several years now and it has met all my expectations. It’s a great school – staff (teaching and non-teaching) and pupils are a delight to work with and I am extremely proud to be a governor.’

Ali Cotton - Parent Governor

‘I got involved as a governor when my daughter started at the school in 2015. My passion is that every child who comes to this school has an opportunity to access high quality teaching and learning which will set them up for their future education and careers.’

Calvin Smith - Parent Governor

‘My son’s attendance at Lainesmead Primary has given me the opportunity to engage with some of the staff and Headteacher. In my role as a Parent Governor, I am looking forward to working alongside individuals who are committed to ensuring that the school provides the best learning environment for all of its pupils.’

Natasha Griffiths - Staff Governor

‘For the past 6 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed my role as class teacher at Lainesmead Primary School. I was keen to become a staff governor because I wanted to expand my passion of teaching and learning beyond my own classroom to support the wider ethos of the school. I look forward to providing my continued support in order for all Lainesmead pupils to strive, achieve and excel.’

Alyssia Mepstead - Co-Opted Governor

'I am very proud to be on the Governing body for Lainesmead as a co-opted governor. I attend the Curriculum committee where I share with governors all the wonderful things the children do as part of a broad and balanced curriculum as well as delving into the data to identify strength and areas for improvement.
I have been a teacher for thirteen years and have been part of Lainesmead’s governing body for several of these. As a class teacher, I was a staff governor. While working at another school, I remained on Lainesmead governing body as I have always felt passionately about the education of the children at this school. I am very happy to once again be a governor now that I am Deputy Headteacher.'

Emma Conduit-Adams - Co-Opted Governor

‘I’m Emma, I am a co-opted Governor. I wanted to be a Governor as Lainesmead has always been close to my heart, I went to school here and now my son is also; I even planted one of the trees in the Orchard! Outside of my work life as an Internal Auditor I love spending time outdoors with my Husband and two little boys and when I get a spare moment I enjoy running.’

Alan Mulrooney - Co-Opted Governor

I work in the education sector so get to see first-hand the impact quality teaching and a good school can have on academic and social development. When my child joined early years in September 2017 I felt it was the perfect opportunity to put my skills and experience to good use and joined the governing board.
