Flu Vaccinations – Reception to Year 6 A reminder that children in Reception through to Year 6 are being offered their annual flu vaccination this term. The vaccination helps protect children against flu and also helps reduce the spread of flu to more vulnerable family members and others in the community. All parents/carers need to complete the consent form, whether you wish to ACCEPT or DECLINE the vaccination for your child. It should take less than five minutes to complete. The nasal spray contains a small amount of porcine gelatine. If your child cannot have the nasal spray for medical reasons, or you do not wish them to receive a vaccine containing gelatine, you can request an alternative injected vaccine which contains no gelatine or other animal products when completing the consent form. Primary-aged children who require the injected vaccine will be offered an appointment at a community clinic rather than receiving it in school. Even if your child received the flu vaccination last year, it is recommended that they receive it again this year as the flu viruses circulating can change each winter. Bikeability! There was so much to celebrate this week that we simply couldn't squeeze everything into the newsletter – so here are some more photos of our Year 4 children enjoying their Bikeability sessions! The children in Y4, 5 and 6 have been busy developing their cycling skills through Level 1 and Levels 1 & 2 Bikeability, building their confidence and learning important skills to help them cycle safely. It's been fantastic to see them listening carefully, challenging themselves and becoming more confident on their bikes. Well done!

A little OPAL plea! As we continue to develop our OPAL play provision, we're always looking for new ways to reflect the different things our children enjoy at playtimes. We have some children who particularly love dolls houses and small world play, so we wondered whether any of our families might have anything tucked away at home that is no longer being used and could be given a new lease of life at Lainesmead. We would be incredibly grateful for donations of dolls houses, dolls house furniture, small figures, animals, vehicles or other small world toys that are in a usable condition. As always, your donations help us keep adding to the variety of play experiences available to our children – and something that has been outgrown at home could quickly become somebody else's favourite thing to play with at school! Piano Lessons at Lainesmead We're pleased to share that Josh is opening up some spaces for 1-to-1 piano lessons during the school day for the new school year. This is a lovely opportunity for children who have shown an interest in music to develop their skills and confidence through individual tuition. Lessons are designed to be fun, personalised and encouraging, whether your child is completely new to the piano or already has some experience. Family Thrive is back! We're really pleased to be offering another round of our Family Thrive sessions at Lainesmead with Mrs Jarrett and Mrs Mann. Over the last year and a half, several of our families have taken part in Family Thrive and have told us how helpful they have found the sessions. They offer a friendly, supportive space to think about children's behaviour, emotions and development, as well as practical approaches that can make a real difference at home. There's no judgement and no expectation that you need to be experiencing difficulties to come along – Family Thrive is about helping all of us understand our children a little better and giving parents and carers some useful tools for those everyday parenting moments!
